Great Great Aunt Jessie's 1940's Planked Steak

Total Time: 16 mins Preparation Time: 1 min Cook Time: 15 mins

Ingredients

  • 1 thick porterhouse steak
  • salt
  • mashed potatoes, amount will vary according to steak size
  • 3 -4 tomatoes
  • 1 carrot, thinly sliced for garnish

Recipe

  • 1 tenderize steak (porter house).
  • 2 wipe off steak.
  • 3 place on broiler and put under a high flame.
  • 4 sear about 3 minutes on one side, turn and sear on the other side- just before it is done, salt on both sides.
  • 5 broil 15 to 20 minutes, turning occasionally while broiling.
  • 6 when done the meat should be rather solid when pressed with the bow of a fork.
  • 7 place meat on a board (plank) that has been soaked in water.
  • 8 put mashed potatoes in pastry bag and put a border around steak and around edge of plank.
  • 9 make little pockets with potatoes.
  • 10 fill up with tomatoes and put in oven and allow to heat.
  • 11 remove and put (recipe paper torn off partially here)--, garnish with carrots.
